Members of the Shivwits band of Paiutes has reach out for help getting the following message out.
From: Red Mountain Land Protectors of the Shivwits Community
To: Our neighbors in the surrounding area,
As we watch the landscape of our beautiful home change with the Black Desert development, I am reaching out because we share more in common than it might seem. Many of us in the Shivwits community have the same concerns you do about the rapid pace of growth and the preservation of the land we all love. Our reservation is small, and the addition of a Condos and a massive golf course affects more than just our borders—it affects our shared traffic, our water, and the quiet beauty of the mountains that draw us all here.
We believe in progress, but we also believe in doing it the right way. Right now, many of us feel our voices haven't been heard in this process. We are asking for transparency—not just for our tribe, but for the sake of the entire community.
We are concerned about: Preserving the Land: Protecting the cedar trees and the mountains that have been sacred to us for generations.
Responsible Growth: Ensuring that "economic development" doesn't come at the cost of the peace and safety of our local neighborhoods.
Accountability: Making sure that a few people aren't making massive decisions that change our home forever without a clear, public plan. We value you as neighbors. We believe that by asking for transparency together, we can ensure that whatever happens on this land respects both the Shivwits culture and the community we share with you.
Thank you for standing with us in asking for a clear vision for our future.
Sincerely, Mary Snow
Shivwits Band Member
